Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park, formerly Dumoga Bone National Park, has a variety of unique ecology as a transition of geographical region between Indomalayan area in the west and Papua-Australia in the east (Wallaceae Area).
Typical and rare plants in Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park are such as matayangan palm (Pholidocarpus ihur), ebony (Diospyros celebica), ironwood (Intsia spp.), Yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava), and carrion flower (Amorphophallus companulatus). While the most commonly found species such as Piper aduncum, Trema orientalis, Macaranga sp., Chrysolite, agathis, ylang, various types of orchids and houseplants.
Nani Wartabone National Park has 24 species of mammals, 125 species of aves, 11 species of reptiles, 2 species of amphibians, 38 species of butterflies, 200 species of beetles, and 19 species of fish. Most of the animals in the national park is a unique wildlife / endemic to Sulawesi, like a black monkey / crested black macaques (Macaca nigra nigra), Gorontalo monkeys (M. nigrescens), tangkasi (Tarsius spectrum spectrum), civet Sulawesi (Macrogalidia musschenbroekii musschenbroekii), Big anoa (Bubalus depressicornis), small anoa (B. quarlesi), babirusa (Babyrousa babyrussa celebensis), and various types of birds.
Bird that became a national park mascot is maleo (Macrocephalon maleo), and then Bone bat (Bonea bidens) are a species endemic to the national park.
Maleo body size is similar to the chicken, but the egg is 6 times the weight of a chicken. Maleo lays their eggs in the soil / sand as deep as 30-40 cm, and are usually located adjacent to the hot springs. With this geothermal maleo eggs hatch. As soon as Maleo chick discharges from the ground, it runs into the wild. Peeking the parent who is digging a hole; is one of the exciting wildlife attractions for tourists.
